Registering Your Business Structure
It is the role of the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation to register businesses. To assist you with registering your business structure, the SBDC can direct you to the the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation web site, where you can download the form needed to register your business.
To register your business as a legal entity-
- Go to the "Forms and Application" page of the Maryland Department of Assesment and Taxation website.
- Scroll down to "Create or Start a New Business in Maryland".
- Select the business entity structure you desire. ie: Articles of Incorporation for Stock Corporation form and instructions.
Determining if your business needs a license-
To research whether your business needs a license:

Visit circuit courts locations page in the Maryland Circuit Court Directory of the Maryland Courts website to to obtain business license information.

From the map, select the county in which you will operate your business.

Contact the office, or person listed, to ask questions about business license information that relates to your type of business.
